From October 3 to 11, 2026, Psara becomes the capital of Greek chess, hosting the 75th Greek Individual Chess Championship 2026 — the country's premier chess event, where the best chess players compete for the title, with the games broadcast live around the world.
As the buzz of summer gives way to the calm of autumn, Psara becomes the ideal setting for a sport that demands quiet, concentration and patience — and this time, playing host to the country's biggest chess event.
Alongside the champions' games, the island lives nine days dedicated to the game of strategy: chess learning activities, training and arbiters' seminars, simultaneous exhibition matches, and a friendly tournament with the participation of the chess clubs of Chios.
On 9 October, chess corners are handed over to the island's schools. And when the event is over, chess stays on the island — in the school classrooms and in the children's hands.
The event is part of Psara In Motion, helping strengthen the island's presence as a destination for sports experiences.

Queen of Chess (2026), Rory Kennedy's documentary on the Hungarian chess player Judit Polgár, who became a grandmaster at 15, breaking Bobby Fischer's record, and went on to take on Garry Kasparov. With rare archive footage and interviews with Polgár herself, her family and Kasparov.
