ABOUT

Psara Sports Festival is back!

After the highly successful 2025 debut, which brought together young and old, locals and visitors, and put Psara on the country's sporting map, the Municipality of the Heroic Island of Psara invites you to the 2nd Psara Sports Festival, on June 17-20, 2026.

Four days full of sports, music and joy, with a refreshed schedule, new partnerships and the same energy that made us say last year that it is here to stay. From Beach Volley and Dodgeball to the Biathlon, Cornhole and the Psara Battle Trials — the whole family will find an activity that suits them.

The highlight, as always, is the Psara Memorial Run — the Memorial Torch Relay for the heroic fallen of the Destruction of Psara (1824), uniting sport with historical memory and honoring the island's glorious past.

Natural environment, history, culture and sport — three pillars become four, and our June rendezvous on Psara is becoming an institution.

The event is part of Psara In Motion, helping strengthen the island's presence as a destination for sports experiences.

Come and be part of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have further questions, contact us and we will be happy to help

Is there any participation fee?

No, taking part in the sports activities of the Psara Sports Festival 2026 is free.

How can I take part?

Fill in the registration form

Which ages can take part?

The Psara Sports Festival aims to be an institution that welcomes every age group without exception. The 2026 programme has therefore been designed to cover the entire age spectrum. In the schedule you will see in detail which ages each sports activity is aimed at.

What equipment do I need?

The only sports activity that requires personal equipment is the bike ride, where you need to bring your own bicycle (ideally checked and properly maintained) along with a protective helmet. For all other sports activities the equipment is provided by the organizers. Just put on your sports gear - and your widest smile - and come have fun with us!

Are the activities competitive?

The Psara Sports Festival uses sport as a vehicle, not as an end in itself. It promotes the values of mutual respect and fair play. All sports activities, although they follow the respective rules and involve competition, will not have a competitive character (e.g. no official timing). We want to show that greater than the joy of victory is the joy of taking part!

I want details about the sports activities.

Don't worry - the sports activities will be explained when the schedule is presented, as well as before the start of each activity. If you are impatient, though, you can read a little more about them below:
- Beach Volley: Volleyball on sand
- Dodgeball: A throw-and-dodge ball game
- Cornhole : A bag-toss target game.
- Biathlon: A classic sporting contest combining two disciplines: swimming and running.
- Traditional Games: A revival of traditional games for young and old alike.
- Psara Battle Trials: The battle course levels up. More teams, more challenges, more action. Participants will be tested on strength, speed, balance and aim. Are you ready? Details of the trials will be announced soon.
- Psara Memorial Run: A memorial torch relay for the heroic fallen of the Destruction of Psara. The route starts at the Holy Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos, in the northern part of the island, near the spot where the Turkish landing took place in 1824. With intermediate stops at places where battles were fought (Xerokampos, Ftelio, Archontiki), the route crosses the island, paying tribute to its heroic fallen defenders. It reaches the southern part of the island, where the settlement lies, ending at Holocaust Heroes Square. Participants take turns carrying the burning torch, which symbolises the fire and devastation left behind by the Turkish invaders. At the same time it symbolises the flame of the Revolution, as the explosion of the powder magazine on the martyred Mavri Rachi became a symbol of self-sacrifice and devotion to Freedom. By clicking here you can watch highlights from the first Memorial Run, held in 2024 on the 200th anniversary of the Destruction of Psara.
Note: Tournament details will be determined by the number of entries.

Could the schedule change?

The organizer of the Psara Sports Festival reserves the right to modify the schedule should circumstances require it (e.g. number of entries, weather conditions, etc.). To hear about any changes right away, follow the official Psara Sports Festival page on Facebook.
