PSARA
SPORTS FESTIVAL
September 3-6, 2025
VISION
The Municipality of the Heroic Island of Psara, strategically investing in extroversion, organizes, in cooperation with organizations and associations from the wider North Aegean region, the Psara Sports Festival, a four-day sporting event with a strong historical and cultural flavor. The purpose of the Psara Sports Festival is to harness the power of sport to achieve three main goals: socialization, entertainment and health.
Through participation in various sporting activities, young and old will have the opportunity to interact, develop new friendships and create beautiful memories. The Psara Sports Festival is not only aimed at children, but also at adults, as our goal is to mobilize every age group. The activities are adapted for all ages, offering fun and exercise to the participants. With the joy of participation and movement, the Psara Sports Festival aims to become an institution that will strengthen social cohesion and promote the values of fair competition, cooperation and health.
At the same time, with the integration and establishment of the Psara Memorial Run, the Memorial Torch Relay for the heroic fallen of the Destruction of Psara (1824), we seek to strengthen historical memory, highlighting the glorious past of our heroic island and its catalytic contribution to the struggle for national rebirth. Natural environment, history and culture constitute the basic triptych in our effort for a mild and sustainable development perspective. The Psara Sports Festival, combining all of the above under the umbrella of sport, aims to highlight the inexhaustible possibilities that this place offers, so that it becomes a modern and alternative tourist destination.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you have further questions, contact us and we'll be happy to help you
Is there any participation fee?
No, participation in the sports activities of the Psara Sports Festival 2025 is free.
How can I participate?
Fill out the appropriate registration form, according to the group you belong to.
What ages can participate?
The Psara Sports Festival aims to be an institution that addresses all age groups without exception. For this reason, the 2025 schedule has been designed in such a way as to cover the entire age spectrum. In the schedule you will see in detail which ages each sporting activity is aimed at.
What equipment do I need to have?
The only sporting activity that requires personal equipment is cycling, where it is essential to bring your own bicycle (it's a good idea to have taken care of its proper maintenance and operation), as well as a protective helmet. For the other sporting activities, equipment is provided by the organizers. Just wear your athletic gear - and your widest smile - and come have fun with us!
Do the activities have a competitive character?
The Psara Sports Festival uses sport as a vehicle and not as an end in itself. It promotes the values of mutual respect and fair competition. All sporting activities, although subject to the respective regulations, will not have a competitive character (e.g. timing). We want to highlight that greater than the joy of victory is the joy of participation!
I want details about the sporting activities. And what is Boccia anyway ?
Don't worry, the sporting activities will be explained during the presentation of the schedule, as well as before the start of each activity. If however you are
impatient, you can read a little more information below:
- Beach Volley: Volleyball
on sand
- Beach Soccer: Soccer
on sand
- Boccia : Boccia.
- Beach Games: Games on the beach for our very young friends.
- Battle Course: You've surely heard of a certain famous TV
...survival game
- Psara Memorial Run: Memorial torch relay for the fallen heroes of the Destruction of
Psara (1824). The starting point of the walk / torch relay is the Holy Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos, in the northern
part of the island, near the location where the Turkish landing took place in 1824. With intermediate
stops at places where battles were fought (Xerokampos, Ftelio, Archontiki), the route crosses the island,
paying tribute to its heroic fallen defenders. It reaches the southern part of the
island, where the settlement is located, passing by the iconic Holy Church of Agios Nikolaos and ending
at Holocaust
Heroes Square. The participants take turns carrying
the burning torch, which symbolizes the fire and destruction left behind by the Turkish
invaders. At the same time, however, it also symbolizes the flame of the Revolution, as the
explosion of the gunpowder store on the martyred Mavri Rachi became a symbol of self-sacrifice and
selflessness for Freedom.
